HTDS started with a simple but important goal: To make learning American history more engaging through entertaining stories, and more accessible beyond the classroom – in other words, learning history shouldn’t suck.
Professor Greg Jackson, the creator and host, likes to say that HTDS is “a legit, seriously researched, hard-hitting survey of American history.” That’s his promise as a PhD scholar of American history – to give honest, unvarnished, unbiased and nonpartisan facts. His only agenda is to invite you on a storytelling journey into the past and hopefully give you valuable insights to bring back to the present day.
When Jackson started HTDS he never dreamed that it would become the #1 history podcast on Spotify and expand to live shows and other projects. To keep producing HTDS requires a small army of dedicated researchers and talented producers. For example, listeners often ask why we don’t produce more than two new episodes a month. Well, that’s because it takes every day of two weeks to produce the 8-10 thousand words of an episode script, plus immersive sound design and original music. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll grow the team and increase the number of episodes.
Yet we’ll never achieve this and other growth goals relying on advertising revenue alone. Ads don’t pay all the bills. Which is why we also have a membership program which you’re invited to join. To be clear, we’re not simply asking for people to “go-fund-me.” No – membership comes with privileges. In return for your support you get ad-free episodes delivered early, plus extra content and perks you can’t get anywhere else. And members know they’re part of a group that not only enjoys HTDS, but shares our goal.
So join our premium membership or continue listening to HTDS with ads. We're grateful for your support!
